Technology

Materials & construction.

At the heart of our surfboards is a commitment to both performance and sustainability. Over the years we've tested a wide range of natural materials, always seeking the ideal balance between strength, weight, flexibility and durability without compromising environmental responsibility.

Let's talk about flex

01 · The frame

Flex Frame Technology

Our unique construction method replaces the traditional single stringer with a stacked bendy ply frame around the perimeter of the board. Inspired by skateboard building techniques, this approach delivers unprecedented flex and resistance to snaps while reducing the risk of rail damage.

Boards are laminated under vacuum, which drastically reduces exposure to resin fumes and dust for the craftspeople who make them. The resin is sealed beneath natural materials, not layered on top, and the wood is finished with a natural, waterproof coating.

Materials

M-01

Cork

Cork is lightweight, flexible, and naturally grippy, making it ideal as a top deck layer on surfboards. It adds comfort and traction and eliminates the need for wax.

M-02

Paulownia Wood

Paulownia is a lightweight, water-resistant timber. It adds strength, durability, and natural flex while maintaining low weight.

M-03

Hemp and Flax

We only use natural fibres to laminate our boards and protect the foam core. A combination of hemp and flax are used to achieve the right balance of flex, weight and durability.

M-04

Bio-Resin

The epoxy resin we use is approximately 30% plant-based, offering a more sustainable option with a reduced carbon footprint. It binds all materials together while providing strength and flexibility for lasting performance.

M-05

Recyclable EPS

We use recyclable polystyrene for our board cores and ensure all offcuts are recycled. While it’s a step in the right direction, we’re actively exploring plant-based alternatives and are committed to making the switch as soon as performance and sustainability align.

M-06

Natural Oils and Hard Wax

We use a natural coating system developed in Europe to protect the wooden elements of the board and provide a hydrophobic finish for speed.

01 · 2mm cork

Cork deck

Cork is lightweight, flexible, and naturally grippy, making it ideal as a top deck layer on surfboards. It adds comfort and traction and eliminates the need for wax.

02 · 10oz hemp + bio resin

Hemp cloth + bio-resin

We only use natural fibres to laminate our boards and protect the foam core. A heavier 10oz hemp cloth sits directly under the cork deck for strength where your feet load the board.

The epoxy resin we use is approximately 30% plant-based, offering a more sustainable option with a reduced carbon footprint. It binds all materials together while providing strength and flexibility for lasting performance.

03 · 3oz flax + bio resin

Flax cloth + bio-resin

A light 3oz flax layer adds a fine, even skin over the core. Combined with hemp it gives the right balance of flex, weight and durability.

The epoxy resin we use is approximately 30% plant-based, offering a more sustainable option with a reduced carbon footprint.

04 · Stacked bendy plywood rails

Plywood rails

Stacked bendy plywood rails wrap the perimeter of the core — the frame that gives Flex Frame its name. They deliver unprecedented flex and resistance to snaps, while reducing the risk of rail damage.

05 · 1lb EPS core

EPS core

We use recyclable polystyrene for our board cores and ensure all offcuts are recycled. While it’s a step in the right direction, we’re actively exploring plant-based alternatives and are committed to making the switch as soon as performance and sustainability align.

06 · 3oz flax + bio resin

Flax cloth + bio-resin

A second 3oz flax layer under the core mirrors the deck lamination, keeping the board balanced in flex and protecting the foam from below.

07 · 2.5mm paulownia wood
